Westwood Robotics had a fantastic day at our first tournament of the season! All five our our teams showed up and showed out in both skills (driving and autonomous) and teamwork. Four of our teams made it to the finals, and our fifth team finished second in skills with dominant scores in both driving and coding. We canβt wait to see what this season holds for these amazing kids!

Some of our 3rd and 4th grade friends sang βThank You, Soldiersβ for Greenwood High Schoolβs Veterans Day assembly today to honor the veterans in our community! And we also ran into Greenwoodβs own Miss Arkansas, Kennedy Holland, who sang a beautiful rendition of βGod Bless America.

Thank you to βAGFCβ and βHunters Feeding the Hungryβ for providing meat sticks to our students in need.

Itβs Day 67 at Westwood, so we went full 6/7 mode.
Step 1: Gather 67 acts of kindness βοΈ
Step 2: Throw a 67-second dance party βοΈ
Step 3: Laugh, smile, and totally make someoneβs day βοΈ

We are thrilled to celebrate Mrs. Saxton, who was selected by Arkansas Valley Electric as one of this yearβs outstanding teachers! Out of more than 300 nominees from across the region, Mrs. Saxton was chosen to receive a $2,500 award for her dedication to going above and beyond for her students and her hands-on approach to learning.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Saxton on this well-deserved recognition! π

β¨π A Magical Surprise at Westwood! πβ¨
Today was filled with excitement and happy tears as Westwood Elementary helped make a dream come true for one of our students, Ella Blythe! Thanks to Make-A-Wish, sheβs headed to Disney World! ππ°
The big surprise was made even more special with help from the GHS Cheer and Dance Teams, Westwood staff, classmates, her parents, sister, and grandparents β all gathered to celebrate this magical moment. π«
It was a beautiful reminder of the kindness, community, and Bulldog spirit that make Greenwood so special. π

First Grade is continuing our nonfiction unit this week with a focus on sunflowers. We know that sometimes authors write nonfiction texts to teach us something. This week, we learned how to grow sunflowers. We also incorporated informative/how to writing in our lesson. Students took home sunflower seeds today to plant on their own. They even wrote out their own steps to follow throughout the growing process.

This week is all about traits and adaptations in third grade FabLab! During our learning, weβve coded, explored with augmented reality animal cards, camouflaged an invasion of lizards (theyβre all over the lab!), and had fun with LEGO habitats. What a week!

Mrs. Meador's 2nd grade class has been working hard on writing paragraphs. They've learned to write a paragraph with a topic sentence, two details with explanations, and a conclusion. They've been working so diligently on this and Mrs. Meador is so proud of them for their hard work.

FabLab fun this week! Students learned five new math and strategy games to play with Mrs. Eckart. We practiced strategic thinking, multiplication, addition, and good sportsmanship, and had a blast doing it!

Our first week of school was filled with smiles, learning, and plenty of fun! Weβre so proud of our students and excited for all the adventures ahead. ππΎ
We canβt wait to do it all again next week! #WinTheDay #theWestwoodWay

School Picture Day is coming!

Mrs. Mooreβs science class is using their paleontologist skills to record information and dig for fossils!

Nothing like a good ole dose of flashlight reading to kick off the weekend. Happy Flashlight Friday from Mrs. Bruceβs Fourthies!!!
** We are so very thankful for our friends and family from the community that donate to our classroom to make our school day more fun!
