On March 30th, 2021, Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas Department of Health made a joint decision to lift the mask mandate in Arkansas. Throughout the pandemic, Greenwood Public School District has followed all recommendations and guidelines of the Arkansas Department of Health and we will continue to do so. After meeting with our Certified Personnel Policy Committee, Classified Personnel Policy Committee, and the Ready for Learning Committee (comprised of teachers, health care workers, parents, maintenance staff, administrators, food service director, transportation director, and security director), the decision was made to remove the mask policy for Greenwood Public Schools effective immediately. Although masks are no longer required, students, staff, and visitors are welcome to continue to wear masks during the school day and at school events. All other directives of the Arkansas Department of Health will continue to be in effect including enhanced cleaning practices, screening procedures, and social distancing when possible. An updated Ready for Learning Plan with the new directives and guidelines will be posted on our website and social media pages for public comment by April 15, 2021. We value your suggestions and comments and appreciate your involvement in this process.

Governor Asa Hutchinson has designated March 15-19 as G.U.I.D.E. for Life Week in the state of Arkansas. All Arkansas students should graduate with a strong foundation of academic knowledge, experience, and proficiencies. To be successful, students also need an equally strong foundation of soft skills – those intangible abilities that help people get along with others, communicate well, and make positive contributions in the workplace and beyond. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education has identified five guiding principles that support educators, business leaders, communities, and students in their efforts to help all Arkansans develop these critical skills. The principles represent skills needed to thrive at home, school, on the job, and in the community: Growth (manage yourself). Understanding (know yourself). Interaction (build relationships). Decisions (make responsible choices), Empathy (be aware of others). The G.U.I.D.E. for Life program, with the support of Arkansas counselors and educators, is designed to give K-12 students a plan – a five-step process – that they can follow to achieve personal success. Each principle is summarized in easy-to-understand key words, with three action points to explain the idea. By incorporating the G.U.I.D.E. for Life concepts throughout the school experience, we can help instill these “real-world” skills for success in all Arkansas students. The result?
