solar eclipse

We are excited to announce a unique educational opportunity for our students at Greenwood High School. On April 8th, our school will be participating in a solar eclipse viewing event. This is a rare and educational experience that provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to witness one of nature's most awe-inspiring spectacles.

Safety is our top priority during this event. We understand the importance of protecting our students' eyesight, and we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure a safe viewing experience. The school will provide all students with certified eclipse glasses that are specifically designed to safely view the eclipse. These glasses filter out the harmful rays of the sun, making it safe to look at the eclipse directly. We want to thank the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and Farmers Bank for providing the glasses for our students.

We kindly ask for your cooperation in preparing your child for this event. Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of keeping the eclipse glasses on at all times during the viewing. It is critical that students do not look at the sun without wearing these protective glasses, as looking at the sun without proper protection can cause serious eye damage.

Here are some key points to discuss with your child:

The importance of wearing the eclipse glasses at all times while viewing the eclipse.

The danger of looking at the sun without protection, even for a brief moment.

The need to listen carefully to instructions from teachers and staff during the event.

The eclipse viewing will take place during school hours, and all students will be supervised by our teachers and staff members. We will also provide educational materials and activities related to the eclipse, making this a comprehensive learning experience.

If you have any concerns or questions about the event, or if you prefer that your child not participate in the eclipse viewing, please contact your child's teacher directly. We are committed to accommodating the needs and preferences of all our students and their families.

Thank you for your cooperation and support. We are looking forward to sharing this spectacular celestial event with our students.
