Athletics

The athletic program in the Greenwood School District has been developed to further the mission of the school. The athletic program exists as a vital part of the total education program. It is intended to contribute in a positive manner to the total development of the individuals participating in the program.

Dr. Dustin Smith
Dr. Dustin Smith

Dr. Dustin Smith assumed the role of Director of Athletic Operations and Student Services in the Spring of 2016. Dr. Smith most recently served the University of Arkansas Fort Smith as Athletic Director where he brought the Lions athletic program from a Junior College program to a Division II NCAA program.

Dr. Smith has earned Bachelor's Degrees in Mass Communications and Physical Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State, a Masters in Sports Administration from East Central University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Smith states that his motto for the athletic program at Greenwood is to "create champions in the classroom, community, and competition."

Dr. Smith and his wife Jennifer have three children, Alec, Riglee, and Raelynn.

Physicals

All students involved in athletic activities 7th grade through 12th grade must have a physical examination and complete the necessary forms available on the Dragonfly website.

Athletic Insurance Information

The Greenwood School District provides insurance for students who participate in athletics as defined by the Arkansas Activities Association for grades 7 through 12. The school insurance is through Student Assurance Services, Inc. Parents may click here for Student Assurance Services, Inc.or call (800) 328-2739.

Greenwood Spirit Squads At A Glance

Greenwood Schools has six spirit squads: 7th Grade Cheer, 8th Grade Cheer, Junior High Dance, Freshman Cheer, Varsity Dance, and Varsity Cheer. The cheerleaders and dancers cheer at football and basketball games and participate in community events. The varsity cheer team, varsity dance team, and junior high cheer team also attend competition. Tryouts are held in the spring for the upcoming school year.
