On March 30th, 2021, Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas Department of Health made a joint decision to lift the mask mandate in Arkansas. Throughout the pandemic, Greenwood Public School District has followed all recommendations and guidelines of the Arkansas Department of Health and we will continue to do so. After meeting with our Certified Personnel Policy Committee, Classified Personnel Policy Committee, and the Ready for Learning Committee (comprised of teachers, health care workers, parents, maintenance staff, administrators, food service director, transportation director, and security director), the decision was made to remove the mask policy for Greenwood Public Schools effective immediately. Although masks are no longer required, students, staff, and visitors are welcome to continue to wear masks during the school day and at school events. All other directives of the Arkansas Department of Health will continue to be in effect including enhanced cleaning practices, screening procedures, and social distancing when possible. An updated Ready for Learning Plan with the new directives and guidelines will be posted on our website and social media pages for public comment by April 15, 2021. We value your suggestions and comments and appreciate your involvement in this process.

Greenwood High School, Greenwood Freshman Center, and Greenwood Jr. High School will pivot to online instruction beginning Thursday Oct 8. Our scheduled testing for BOL students will be rescheduled to a later date. This decision was made due to the large number of teachers in quarantine and a shortage of substitute teachers at this time. Covid - 19 positives cases in Sebastian County continue to increase, which in turn has started to filter into the school setting. The district will use this time to thoroughly clean the buildings, and allow time for staff quarantines to expire so we can return to campus with a full staff. We plan to return to campus Monday October 12th. Instruction will continue to be provided via google classroom. During this short term pivot, students will be expected to stay current with school work daily. Greenwood Prek-6 will continue normal daily schedules.

Greenwood Jr High School has been notified of 1 positive student COVID-19 case today. This student is also a member of the 7th grade football team. The school district consulted with the Arkansas Department of Health, and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, resulting in the quarantine of probable close contacts from the classroom and bus, as well as the 7th grade football team and one coach. Parents of all quarantined students have been contacted today and those students were moved to online instruction with school issued Chromebooks through September 23rd. In addition, Athletic Director Dustin Smith announced that all 7th grade football activities will be paused until September 24th. Practice will resume on September 24th and regular season schedules will resume on September 29th. Superintendent John Ciesla emphasized there is only one positive case at this time. “These decisions are not easily made, but are in the best interest and safety of our staff and students.”
Greenwood Junior High is thankful and excited to announce that we will be going one-to-one with our Chromebooks. Our students will be able to use a school-issued computer at school and at home this school year. Permission/usage forms will be going home today.
